Girona Buddies goals

From Girona Buddies

Girona Buddies goals[edit]

Encourage real-world connections[edit]

  • Support and promote in-person meetups (e.g., language meetups, hikes).

Help newcomers integrate and make friends[edit]

  • Provide a welcoming environment for internationals and temporary residents.

Girona Buddies code[edit]

Be inclusive[edit]

Girona Buddies is inclusive of age, race, gender, background, etc.

Be non-profit[edit]

Girona Buddies is non-profit. Events and meetups should generally be free. We know that not everyone can organise events for free, so some exceptions can be made. However, paid events should be clearly marked with "PAID EVENT".

If money is made, be open and transparent about where the money is going to.

Be open about policies and procedures[edit]

Encourage autonomy and self-governance, and reduce hierarchy[edit]

Reduce reliance on a single leader by:

  • Promoting member-led organization
  • Encouraging members to organize their own events.
  • Allowing groups to self-organize.

Keep subgroups active[edit]

  • Remove or merge subgroups that have been inactive for 6 months.

Be democractic[edit]

  • Use polls in the Feedback and Ideas subgroups for major decisions (e.g., subgroup creation/removal).

Reduce irrelevant or spammy messages[edit]

  • Create niche subgroups, so people only need to read messages on topics they're interested in
  • Direct posts to correct subgroups (e.g., Jobs, Food, Freecycling).
  • Recruit more admins to help moderate and redirect messages.

Grow to stay alive[edit]

  • Attract new members to replace inactive ones.
  • Expand reach using Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meetup.

Grow sustainably:

  • Avoid unnecessary subgroup creation.
  • Focus on building quality connections rather than just getting new members for the sake of getting more members.
